Practical information

  • What are the Castle's opening hours?

    Château de Couches is open from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm.

  • How do gift vouchers work and how long are they valid?

    Gift vouchers can be purchased on the castle website. These allow you to offer the services proposed without obligation to indicate a date. Gift voucher recipients may contact us to choose a date for their visit within one year.

  • Are dogs allowed in the park and guest rooms?

    Dogs are welcome at the castle. We ask you to keep them on a leash in the castle.

  • Where can I park?

    During your visit to Château de Couches, you can park in the parking lot in front of the castle, in the spaces provided by the roadside. You can also park in the parking lots in the village center.

  • Where can I buy the estate's wine?

    The estate's wine can be purchased on our website, directly at the castle or at the Cave de Mazenay, which also has a store in Chalon-sur-Saône.

  • What payment methods are accepted?

    We accept cash and credit cards (Visa, Mastercard). For groups, payment by bank transfer is also accepted.

  • Can I bring a stroller to the castle?

    The castle is accessible by stroller, and we'll be delighted to welcome your baby!

Eating out

  • Is there a restaurant at Château de Couches?

    Yes, the restaurant Le Blason de Vair located within the Château de Couches grounds welcomes you from Thursday to Saturday lunchtime and Sunday lunchtime. Chef Jean-Philippe Marques offers you a seasonal menu made with fresh, local products.

  • Can we picnic in the park?

    Picnics are not permitted in the park, except for school groups and summer camps with a reservation.

  • When is the restaurant open?

    The restaurant is open Thursday to Saturday for lunch and dinner, and Sunday lunchtime. Lunchtimes are from 12pm to 2pm and evenings from 7pm to 11pm.

  • Does the restaurant have an afternoon bar?

    Le Blason de Vair is a gourmet restaurant that does not offer afternoon bar service. However, drinks can be purchased at reception.

  • What kind of tours are available?

    We offer several visits to allow you to visit the Château de Couches, a place full of history, as you wish: • Guided tour: during busy months, our guides offer guided and interactive tours to discover the entire history of Château de Couches.
    • Audio-guided tour: For a complete historical tour at your own pace, audio guides in French and English are at your disposal.
    • Self-guided visit: take advantage of a self-guided tour to discover a historic site and stroll through the upper and lower courtyards of the castle!
    • Guided tour and tasting: much more than a historic place, Château de Couches is a wine-growing place that offers delicious Burgundy wines. By choosing this tour format, you will discover the different wines from the castle's lands through a tasting.
    • Challenge at the castle: for a dynamic visit, we provide digital tablets allowing you to take on our challenge at the Castle! Our orienteering course allows you to discover the history of Château de Couches in an unusual way.

  • Do I need to buy tickets in advance?

    Advance tickets are recommended for activities and guided tours. For audio guided and self-guided tours, it is generally not necessary to purchase tickets in advance.

  • Do I have to pay to use the gardens and parks?

    To enjoy the gardens and parks, you'll need to purchase a “Visite libre” ticket, priced at 6 euros.

  • How does an audio tour work?

    Audioguides are available in English and French if you choose the audioguide tour. Depending on the options chosen, the tour can last from 45 to 90 minutes, leaving you to choose your own route.

  • What tour format is available with the “Tour and Tasting” package?

    The “visit and tasting” tour format offers a one-hour audio tour presenting the history of the Château and its architecture.

Visits with children

  • Are there any activities for children?

    Throughout the year, the castle organizes various activities for children:
    • Birthday tea in the medieval dining room within the castle’s Tour Carré. We are preparing a special birthday snack for your little princesses and princes.
    • Creative activities: we offer a wooden sword painting workshop that will delight your children. At the end of this workshop, the children leave with a souvenir of this memorable day at Château de Couches.
    • Visit to the Castle: The visit to the Castle is accessible to children in different formats such as the self-guided tour, the children's tour (adapted to their age) and the fun visit via our digital game “visit to the castle”.

  • Can school groups visit the Château?

    During the school vacations, children are offered activities based on the year's themes, such as Easter egg hunts, Halloween pumpkins to dig, Christmas wreath-making workshops, magic shows...

  • Are children under 12 who wish to use an audioguide during their visit entitled to a reduced rate?

    Children under 12 can take advantage of an audioguide tour for 4 euros instead of 8 euros.

  • Is access to the tour and restaurant possible for people with reduced mobility?

    The restaurant is fully accessible for people with reduced mobility. Visits to the castle are only partially accessible for people with reduced mobility. Only the parks, the chapel and the underground entrance are accessible.

  • Are there reduced rates for people with reduced mobility?

    Yes, people with reduced mobility benefit from a 1 euro discount on their castle admission ticket.
